The seminar held on September 25, 2019 at the Lagos Oriental Hotels, Victoria Island, Lagos, was mainly for Lawyers as it dealt with litigation and drafting of court processes which is an everyday encounter for practicing lawyers. In the course of the seminar, the participants were actively involved in the review of a case – “TITILAYO PLASTIC INDUSTRIES LIMITED & ORS v. CHIEF JOSHUA ABESI FAGBOLA (2019) LPELR-47606(SC)” on the disparity of names in a security document and the enforcement documents following the Court of Appeal decisions in Fagbola v. Titilayo Plast. Ind. Ltd. (2005) 2 NWLR (Pt.909) 1 and Umar v. W.G.G. (Nig.) Ltd. (2007) 7 NWLR (Pt.1032) 117 at 147 paragraphs D – E on the same subject.

This review was done in the session facilitated by Mr Gabriel Uduafi, Managing Associate ACAS Law on “Inadequacies of the Civil Procedure Rules: Critical Analysis of the High Court of Lagos State Civil Procedure Rules 2019 and the Federal High Court Rules 2019”. The new Civil Procedure Rules of the High Court of Lagos State and the Federal High Court were analysed and also compared with the previous rules. and it was a very interactive session.

 

This was followed by the session on “Evolving Practice of Written Advocacy: Importance of an Effective Written Advocacy” led by Mr Godwin Omoaka, SAN (one of the the Lawyers, that were newly conferred with the prestigious rank of the Senior Advocate of Nigeria) a Partner at Templars Law. This session was also very interactive as the participants were given exercises that were done and graded in the class.

 

Mr Gabriel Uduafi, facilitated the last session on “Relevance of an Impeccable Drafting Skills” which was very educating and informative.
