Professor Offornze Amucheazi SAN, emphasized on the importance of written advocacy in the success and failure of court cases at the Two-Day Training on “Pleadings, Written Addresses, Appellate Briefs and Legal Opinions” organized for the staff of Enugu State Ministry of Justice, at The Hotel, Independence Layout, Enugu, Enugu State on Tuesday December 10 -Wednesday December 11, 2019.

 

He also discussed at length the inadequacies of the Civil Procedure Rules: Critical Analysis of the High Court of Enugu State Civil Procedure Rules 2006 & Ethical Limits on Civil Litigation.

 

Also, Mr Ituah Imhanze, ACIArb, Partner, Kenna Partners, Lagos; a facilitator at the programme, spoke extensively on the issues faced when reconciling the Conflicts between Written Briefs and Advocacy.

 

Sir Ike Nwakwuo, MCArb, MNIM, Principal Partner, Bethany Law & Partners, Lagos  and a facilitator at the event also spoke about the evolving practice of Written Advocacy with special reference to the lmportance of an effective written advocacy. Also dealt with extensively, was the relevance of an impeccable drafting skill and the use of Information and Communication Technology in filing court processes.

 

Dr Ifeoma Nwafor, FCArb, Lead Consultant IEN Legal Associates, Enugu also brought in her expertise when she took a session on “Modern Trends and Requirements for Drafting Pleadings and Briefs: Skills & Dynamics”. She urged Lawyers to always use few words, make valid arguments, state their claim, reliefs and arguments clearly when drafting.

 

At the end of the programme, the participants were enlightened on the need to continuously improve on their drafting skills as it is a cornerstone of legal writing and procedure.
